I always liked the sea but i never considered myself a sailor.
Growing up in Italy, I used to windsurf and sometime, when the occasion presented itself, I would rent a Laser or another little boat
In addition to the windsurf and some day-sailing I had the opportunity of traveling with my wife and my friends Douglas and Guido on their sailboat “Bianco Orso”. We visited the Island of Ponza and Ventotene and the best trip of all was a 10 day cruise to Sardinia, the Balearic Islands and France (Saint Tropez) Here is a picture from that trip.
That brings us to the title of the post, I just turned 56 and while I’m pretty athletic and youthful I’m really tired of working and would like to spend a few years doing some voyaging in the Caribbean and behind.
I’m not wealthy by any stretch of imagination, I have a son just out of college and daughter that just started. This blog is about trying to reconcile my dreams with my responsibilities, is it doable?
I’m working towards achieving my goal in 2 or 3 years, this include the time I need to save some money, study nautical texts, get time on the water crewing on different boats, get some certifications, find a used boat to buy and outfit it for blue water voyaging, get my family used to the idea and many other considerations. In each blog post I will try to examine each of this aspects and detail what steps I’m taking to achieve my dreams!
