Cape Dory 27 - Hull # 48 - Aeolus
After sailing Anarchy for a wonderful season on the long island sound, I had a growing desire for something more comfortable that would allow me to stand in the cabin and have a place to cook and sleep. A marine head was also desirable for longer trips. that’s when I learned about Aeolus. Walker Lewis, A long time member of the City Island Yacht Club had passed away and the wife was selling his boat, Aeolus. The boat, a Cape Dory 27 was in need of some TLC but had solid bones and a working engine, I was not afraid of the work ahead of me and I spent the two years, varnishing, painting, replacing the head , swapped all the lights with LED, upgraded the battery bank with 2 AGM 100 Watt batteries, installed a solar panel, , replaced the roller furler, all the the running and standing rigging and I installed equipment which I thought would make voyaging safer such as Radar and AIS.
I have been consulting with James Baldwin the circumnavigator author of Atom Voyages and many very interesting travel and sailing books. I’m bringing the boat to him in Georgia to install a Pacific Light wind vane and do some additional work before I head to the Bahamas.
