The Origins – Aurora
One reason why I’m so in love with boating is that my father for a short period had a beautiful Schooner.
My father Wilson Chelo, was a travel agent, as a business venture he took an old fishing vessel and completely rebuilt it by adding a lot of ballast to the keel and two masts that came from Austria on a special train. In doing so he created a very elegant schooner that ended up to be stationed in Port Sudan where a full time crew took mainly German tourists scuba diving.
I had the opportunity of both working on the boat (varnishing, sanding and the likes) and I also was able to visit and scuba dive all around Sudan. I visited various incredible reefs like Sanganeb, the wreck of the Umbria in front of Port Sudan and the underwater house (Precontinet II) of Jacques Cousteau. I also swam with sharks and dolphins and I have to say that the dolphin were almost scarier than the Sharks!
